Drive Better Outcomes with Standardized EFM Communication

Electronic fetal heart rate monitoring (EFM) is the primary tool in the U.S. for assessing fetal well-being during labor. To address serious EFM miscommunication risks , the Perinatal Quality Foundation introduced the Fetal Monitoring Credentialing (FMC) in 2014.

Now offered by Inteleos, this credential aims to:

  • Standardize clinical language
  • Reduce errors
  • Improve outcomes for newborns and mothers

Exam Overview

The FMC offers two online, on-demand exams: one for providers and one for nurses – to assess both knowledge and judgement.

WHO IS IT FOR?

  • Physicians and CNMs: One exam tailored specifically for these professionals.
  • Registered Nurses (RNs) and Other Perinatal Clinicians: A separate exam for those involved in the management of labor and delivery patients.

EXAM DETAILS:

  • Questions: 70-80 questions.
  • Duration: 120 minutes to complete.
  • Credential Validity: Valid for three years, after which recredentialing is required. The recredentialing examination has fewer questions than the full examination.
After three years participants will be required to take the full examination.
  • Knowledge Component: Traditional multiple-choice format.
  • Judgment Component:
    • Script Concordance Testing (SCT), developed by Dr. Bernard Charlin, simulates real-world scenarios to assess clinical reasoning in dynamic situations.
    • Reflects the complexity of actual practice with multiple acceptable answers, providing a realistic evaluation of proficiency.
